Biophilic Design

The term "biophilia" means "love of life or living systems." It was first used by Erich Fromm to describe a psychological orientation of being attracted to all that is alive and vital.
In our increasingly populated world, where species are at higher risk than ever, with the use of technology, materials, processes, and design methodology, we strive to generate designs that connect the urban dweller with nature. We also try to give back, by incorporating responsible design /build strategies to lower the building impact and incorporating natural systems within the architecture itself. We draw inspiration from nature and all of its complex systems to create.

We at odd+ apply the model of intelligent design, where we incorporate BIM (Building Information Modeling) strategies to optimize design processes and save the client time and money. Additionally, we ally with companies of high prestige and history for the various processes and technical components that emerge throughout the development of the project. odd+ strategic alliances allows many of the building's technical, design and high complexity issues to be coordinated from the conceptual phase. This is essential for the development of an intelligent and sustainable project, avoiding fundamental changes in both design and engineering in later stages. We control, manage and direct every process and phase of the project for superior results.

According to Isaac Asimov "Science fiction can be defined as that branch of literature which deals with the reaction of human beings to changes in science and technology." In this case, Science Fiction, or what is called the "literature of ideas", typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, time travel, parallel universes, fictional worlds, space exploration, and extraterrestrial life, usually exploring the consequences of scientific innovations regardless of what is possible technologically in present time. We at odd+ always strive to generate projects with a sense of complete open mindedness for the exploration of innovative processes, technology and programmatic solutions that are out of the conventional. Taking the main problematics of a specific project, we always challenge and question the norm regardless of any type of limitations and constraints for the absolute improvement of the project.

We at odd+ use all of our projects as living laboratories. Within the specific problems that arise in each of our projects we always try to incorporate applied research in science and technology to both improve the result of the specific project and acquire learning knowledge for future projects. Material innovation, programmatic organization, structural systems and urban organizational systems are examples of our focus in R+D processes. With this praxis we do not intend to yield immediate profit, but to improve the practice of architecture for the betterment of nature and mankind alike.
