Marble House:
The Purity Of The Material

Quito, Ecuador

Type: Residential
Client: Private
Size: 1600m2
Status: Concept

Casa Mármol seeks to be a new paradigm in the continuous deconstruction of the types of spaces we currently live in, creating greater segmentation of uses and distancing between them, without losing the sense of connection between human beings, nature, and the environment.

It was designed as a programmatic challenge, where the different uses of the home were rethought and redefined, changing the concept of space, expanding its dimensions to enhance spatiality, and giving it greater importance in creating a comfortable and habitable house. The reestablishment of the order of space usage is based on new concepts of privacy: intimate private, private, private social, social public, public; public service, social service, private service.

It adapts perfectly to the terrain, taking advantage of the pronounced slope to create open areas oriented toward the main view.

The programmatic order in this house is reversed. The order of space usage is restructured based on new concepts of privacy adapted to the site's topography, adapting to it and designing while appropriating the place, embracing its natural characteristics.

Normally, programmatic structure is organized with the ground floor as public-social (daytime area) and the upper floor as private (nighttime area). In the design of this house, the order was conceptualized in reverse due to the terrain’s topography. Why not change what is established? This led to the conception of Casa Mármol.

The spine of the house is an open connecting ramp that links the three levels, acting as a defining element of the house. It is the articulating axis where the service spaces—social, public, private, and intimate—intersect.

It is a house designed with a focus on hierarchizing and differentiating programmatic spaces: public-social, public-private, and private-intimate. The types of spaces were redefined and expanded beyond the traditional categories of social, private, and service, introducing: Intimate private, Private, Private social, Social public, Public, Public service, Social service, Private service.

Each level also contains multiple service areas, arranged along a central axis spanning all three levels, acting as an articulating element for the rest of the house's spaces.
